If you would have told me two years ago that I will wear a meditation mala, have an altar in my bedroom and put my crystals outside in full moon nights to charge them…. – oh well, how much things can change!! Those and other aspects of my spiritual practice have become so normal for me and actually have been so beneficial for my healing journey away from depression and anxiety towards inner peace and self love, that I can’t imagine my life without them ♥︎
Today I would love to share some information about crystals with you, which ones I have and how I use them. Although I get super nerdy and always do a ton of research I am definitely not an expert! I get my “knowledge” from many different online and offline sources and also just follow my intuition as much as possible. There’s no wrong or right when it comes to spirituality and I really just want to inspire and encourage you to explore and create your very own practice.
Crystals are a collection of highly vibrating atoms and have the ability to balance our emotions and harmonize or heighten our energies. As an highly sensitive empath I am so grateful for anything that helps me stay more calm and centered, especially when I am in crowded places. Through my job I am traveling often and my crystals have been such beautiful protective companions. I pick up on energies and other people’s emotions super fast and as much as it benefits my work and enables me to help others, it can get really overwhelming and exhausting. Amongst other techniques and tools crystals has been really helpful with this. I also find that crystals enhance my meditation practice immensely! They serve as reminders, give guidance and accompany me when I am journeying to the deepest parts of my soul.
Crystals can be worn as jewery, used for meditation or certain rituals and healing techniques or simply kept besides your bed or anywhere in your room.
Crystals that I have been using and wearing the most:
I wear rose quartz as a necklace every single day. It’s by Soul Zen (my go to online shops for all things spiritual and magical ♥︎) and part of a series of four necklaces- one for each element. I am Sagittarius, which is a fire sign so I picked the fire necklace. The air one comes with a clear quartz, earth with a green malachite and water with a blue lapis lazuli.
I love that the necklace gives me the possibility to wear a rose quartz so close to my heart area as it is supposed open the heart chakra to allow love to flow easily and heal emotional wounds.
I also have few rose quartz stones on my meditation altar. For the altar I simply bought a big golden plate that I placed on a covered basket in a corner of my bedroom facing East. I also have Buddha statue there with a candle and two posters by TalesByJen.
On the plate I have a big candle, a wooden incense holder, my crystals, a mala (=meditation necklace), my singing bowl, oracle cards (also from Soul Zen), a sacred feather I received in California and a wooden spintop from my baby brother that reminds me of ‘Inception’ and the fact that what we perceive as real is not all there is. There is some sage and palo santo that I use for ‘smudging’, a few more feathers, stones I collected at the Baltic Sea during a retreat and a little pendant I got at a shamanic ceremony in August. It was after my first retreat last year and especially my time in LA some months later that I felt the need to actually arrange a meditation space in my room. I had been meditating before and you definitely do not need an altar – I personally just love having a sacred little space for my rituals and meditation practice. Even just lighting the big candle and burning some sage puts me in a different head space and as I am very sensitive to energies I can definitely tell that this corner in my bedroom as a different vibration that gets stronger the more I meditate there.
2018 has been a year of healing, finding inner peace and strengthening the relationship to myself. A year of rebirth after struggling with anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. I have never experienced this strong sense of belonging, presence, self worth and inner support. There are many aspects to this healing process but it is quite apparent that it this process was definitely sped up ever since I started wearing and using rose quartz. And I simply love to believe in magic ♥︎
Rose quartz is also the stone I find myself giving as a gift the most.
Rose quartz qualities:
- Stone of love

This is another stone I wear with me most days. Soul Zen gifted me this beautiful prism necklace a few months ago and it has been a wonderful companion since. Clear quartz is definitely one of the stones that I can “feel” the most. It has such a strong energy and is often called “master healer”. I often find myself intuitively reaching for the prism during important appointments or when I am in crowded places or public transportation. One of it’s major qualities is giving clarity.
I also have two clear quartz stones on my altar and often meditate with them.

Oh beloved moonstone. I have a very special connection to this one. Throughout the last months I wore a moonstone mala around my left wrist. It’s a symbol for femininity, fertility and sensuality – aspects I have been aiming to strengthen in my life. The relationship to my body and femininity definitely suffered immensely through the sexual abuse I experienced a few years ago and healing this area of my life has been a major goal of mine this year – especially as I have been struggling with amenorrhea. I didn’t get my period since November ’16 due to different factors. At the end of July I finally got it back – after I started wearing and using moonstone intensely. Of course it’s not the only thing I did / do for recovering from amenorrhea but it’s just very apparent to me as I dedicated the month of July to femininity, using affirmations and visualizing daily together with the moonstone.
Other healing properties of moonstone:
- Stone of new beginnings
- Inner growth and strength
- Emotional balance
- Stress release
- Sacral Chakra, Third Eye Chakra & Solar Plexus Chakra
- Zodiac: Cancer, Libra, Scorpio
- Planet: Moon
- Element: Water
- Color: cream, yellow, blue, grey, peach, pink
Physical healing: Digestion, hormonal balance, detoxification, nutrient absorption, eliminates toxins & water retention.
The first mala I got last year was made with lava stone beads and it has been with me through some of the hardest weeks when I battled severe depression. It’s still the one I choose to wear for traveling or when I feel the need for extra protection. Lava stone is solidified from molten lava and is the oldest and most frequently found stone in our world. It’s recommend to be worn in close contact with the skin, so I wear my mala around the wrist or underneath my shirt.
- Calming and grounding
- Stone of rebirth
- Connection to Earth and nature
- Courage & strength
- Emotional balance and stability (especially in times of change)
- Root Chakra
- Zodiac: Taurus, Cancer
- Planet: Earth
- Element Fire & Earth
- Color: black
This is probably the first crystal I came in contact with and recognized as a healing stone in my childhood simply because it is quite common and known. I have two on my altar and use them frequently for my meditation practice.
- Stress & anxiety relief
- Balancing mood swings
- Spiritual awareness, intuition
- Healing & cleansing
- Can help with addictions and insomnia.
- Focus, memory function, motivation
- Third Eye Chakra & Crown Chakra

Physical healing: Hormone production, metabolism, immune system, regeneration, blood cleansing. Can help with: skin conditions, bruises, headaches, respiratory illnesses and even cancer.
I started to feel strongly attracted to this stone in July and received a beautiful personalized mala made with rhodochrosite and moonstone that I now often use for self love techniques and meditation. I also wore it during a shamanic plant medicine ceremony in August and which amplified the connection even more. My meditation pillow is made with rhodochrosite and rose quartz. For me it’s really the stone of unconditional love. It’s the remembrance of our true nature.

How I cleanse my crystals
I recommend cleansing your crystals regularly. They absorb energies easily and we do not want any old energy or bad frequencies in our practice. I usually wash mine with clear water once a month and lay them out during full moon to charge them with energy. Before starting my meditation practice I often smudge my room, my altar and myself using white sage or palo santo. Both have been used for energetic cleansing by shamans. You can find palo santo and sage in the Soul Zen shop.
I also love using my singing bowl at the beginning of my practice which is not just a beautiful ritual but also good for clearing the energies and setting the space. Sound does influence the frequency of crystals as well.
When I am not wearing my crystals and malas with me I put them on my altar as it is important where we store them.
Little tip: Not all crystals should be cleansed with water. I read that the ones that end on “ite” like Howlite should not be left in water.
How to pick a crystal
Autumn and winter are the perfect months for turning inward and doing shadow work… I find that using crystals is incredibly valuable for these processes. So maybe now’s the right time for you to get in touch with crystals if you haven’t yet?
Each crystal has its own vibration and we can use our intuition to find a stone that has a vibration that resonates with our own. If you want to get a crystal for yourself but do not know which one to buy I highly suggest to either visit a crystal shop in your area or do online research.
When you want to buy a crystal at a store I recommend to really take your time. Hold the stone in your hand until it warms to your body temperature. Warmth activates it and you might be able to really feel how it resonates with your own vibration.
Being able to hold and feel the stones’ different energies is amazing but if you struggle to find a store nearby I suggest to read up on different stones online or directly search for stones that can help with particular difficulties you might struggle with. Trust your intuition! If you feel attracted to a particular stone it will be good for you. There is no right or wrong way to choose a crystal. You might just like the way it looks, how it feels in your hand or how it catches the light.
I recommend really checking WHERE the stones are coming from. As with everything in our world there are people making a business out of crystals which results in child labor, smuggling, use of dynamite for extraction and unnatural methods like coloring, spraying or radiation. It’s most definitely better to invest time and money in picking a trust worthy source.
Please let me know if you have any questions on this topic or want to me share more information on anything I mentioned in this post.
Thank you so much for reading! Much love & Namaste.
